Wilson School Artist-in-Residence Program (1978-1983)
From 1978 to 1983 Wilson was enriched through the school’s Arts & Humanities Artist-in-Residence Program sponsored by the Oklahoma Arts Council, the State Department of Education, and Heritage Hills Historical Preservation, Inc.
The school scheduled professional artists through the State Arts Council’s Artist-in-Residence Program to provide art opportunities for all the students.Artists included a juggler who taught hand-eye coordination;A visual artist who taught the components of line, color, and design through painting and creating unique and beautiful God’s Eye weavings;A creative dramatist who led improvisations with students teaching spontaneity and sparking creativity & imagination; Other artists included a poet, vocal musician, dancer, as well as a fiber artist who taught the art of weaving and a potter who taught the art of making clay masks and baskets.These exciting experiences helped the children increase their understanding and appreciation of themselves, the arts, and the world around them!
